Connecting Pompano’s Evolving Core

As part of the effort to reimagine Pompano Beach, the city sought a sustainable transportation option to complement its vision for a more connected community. While the county’s fixed-route shuttle provided regional coverage, city leaders saw an opportunity to introduce a service focused on moving people more easily around Pompano’s growing business district and beach area. With limited parking in these areas, they aimed to enhance access, reduce emissions, and make it easy for people to experience all that the area has to offer.

Zero-Emission Mobility That Fits the Plan

Pompano Beach service area

In 2021, Pompano Beach launched an all-electric, on-demand microtransit service operated byCircuit. Funded 50/50 through a Flrida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant and city match, the service vwas quickly adopted by residents and visitors. As part of redevelopment efforts in the area, the city secured FDOT funding before the project went to RFP. Circuit’s service was designed with the city to improve access to the beach, downtown shops, restaurants, and other high-demand areas. Riders can access the service using the Ride Circuit app or by hailing a vehicle in the service area, and the city chose to make rides fare-free.

"This has not only been instrumental in reducing traffic congestion, but significantly reducing our tailpipe emissions."
- Jeff Lantz
Parking Manager, City of Pompano Beach

Strong Performance, Low Cost

Circuit has become a vital part of how people move throughout Pompano Beach, helping residents and visitors connect to grocery stores, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels and the beach without the need to drive or re-park. The service enables short, convenient trips that support local business and align with the cities vision for a more accessible community.

From the beginning, the program has seen strong adoption and consistently high demand—delivering reliable performance at one of the lowest costs per rider across all of Circuit’s deployments. As a fare-free service, it has remained easy to use and accessible to all, residents and visitors alike. The integration of Circuit with Pompano’s broader plans for sustainability and urban transformation has made it a standout example of smart, scalable microtransit.

The city continues to explore expansion, recognizing Circuit’s ability to consistently move large volumes of riders efficiently, cut emissions at scale, and deliver meaningful returns for its community investment.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Access Across More Neighborhoods

As demand remains strong, expanding Circuit beyond the beach areas presents a clear opportunity to serve more neighborhoods and enhance local mobility. Areas north and south of Harbor Village, Old Town, connections to Tri-Rail and the east/west corridor to Harrah’s Pompano Beach stand out as logical extensions. With the foundation already in place, future expansion can build on the program’s strengths: high adoption, low cost per rider, and the ability to connect people to key destinations without the need for a car.
