New Rochelle and Circuit Celebrate Six Years of Clean, All-Electric Microtransit With 285,000+ Rides Completed

The City of New Rochelle and Circuit announced today the six-year milestone of their pioneering partnership to provide free, all-electric, on-demand microtransit. Since its 2019 launch, the service has become a model for sustainable and equitable mobility, delivering more than 285,000 passenger trips, avoiding 40,000 gallons of gasoline, and reducing 215,000 single-occupancy vehicle miles.

Launched with just three electric GEM vehicles, the New Rochelle service has evolved through community feedback and operational improvements into a reliable and efficient mobility option that connects residents to jobs, shops, healthcare, and services.

Key program milestones include:

2019: Service launched, providing 13,000 rides in the first six months.

2020: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Circuit expanded to six vehicles and partnered with Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital and 511NYRideshare to transport healthcare workers. The program earned the Clean Air NY Champions Award and was recognized by the National League of Cities as “one of the city’s smartest investments.”

2021–2022: Ridership surged to nearly 65,000 annual trips, with cumulative rides surpassing 150,000.

2023–2024: A mixed fleet pilot replaced three GEMs with EV sedans, improving reliability, winter performance, and rider experience. The program also launched its first local ad campaign with Empire City Casino, creating a new revenue stream for the city.

2025: The mixed fleet was adopted permanently, and coverage expanded to include high-demand destinations such as Home Depot, ShopRite, and Costco.

The service has consistently received positive community feedback, with riders noting its convenience, accessibility, and value. One resident shared: “This service is very helpful not only for those that do not have a vehicle, but also for people who have difficulty walking. Thank you to the creator, drivers, you are all appreciated.”

“New Rochelle has proven what’s possible when a city commits to sustainable mobility,” said Alex Esposito, Circuit Co-Founder and CEO. “Six years of ridership growth, community trust, and measurable environmental benefits show how microtransit can evolve into an indispensable part of the local transportation ecosystem.”

As Westchester County looks to expand sustainable mobility more broadly, the New Rochelle service offers a clear example of how electric microtransit can scale while delivering equity, sustainability, and value for both residents and partners.
